A commitment to an inclusive fitness industry through a Reconciliation Action Plan
Fitness Australia is committed to an inclusive fitness environment for all Australians.
Most Australians enjoy one of the highest life expectancies of any country in the world. This is not the case for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who experience social, educational and health inequalities.
So to raise the health and life expectancy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to that of non-Indigenous populations, the Close the Gap campaign was created.
Through exercise participation and employment opportunities, we want to develop an industry that provides equitable, culturally safe and appropriate access to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
To achieve these goals we’re developing a Reconciliation Action Plan with the support of Reconciliation Australia and other peak Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations.
This is a plan with meaningful and practical outcomes that documents Fitness Australia’s commitment, with the support of the fitness industry, to contribute to reconciliation in Australia.
In the coming months we’ll launch our Reconciliation Action Plan, aligning our objectives with those of the Close the Gap.
