Brisbane Marathon ‘Hero Run’ kids raises funds for the Leukaemia Foundation
On August 4th thousands of competitors will take to the streets of Brisbane City for the annual Brisbane Marathon Festival. Amongst them will be some of the smallest competitors, who’ll prove size doesn’t matter when they take on the 2.2km ‘Hero Run’.
The 2.2km track gives budding young athletes and their families a chance to participate in the day’s events at an enjoyable pace, with proceeds going to the Leukaemia Foundation.
Race organizer Steve Manning says the event is a great opportunity for families and entrants of all fitness levels to have a go and experience the Brisbane Marathon Festival.
“We set up the Kids 2.2km Hero Run with the Leukaemia Foundation for children under the age of 12. It’s all about introducing kids to the joys of running, and making sure they can have a positive experience with mum or dad by their side. Every child who registers will get a running visor and a special finisher medal to be awarded if they complete the distance,” Mr Manning said.
Leukaemia Foundation CEO Bill Petch said the foundation is honored to be the named charity for the event and can’t wait to see the participants pounding the pavement.
“The Leukemia foundation is delighted to be this year’s beneficiary and it’s so great to see young people of all ages and their families getting involved in the Brisbane Marathon Festival,” Mr Petch said.
‘The funds raised will go towards helping support people with blood cancers and their families, so being called the ‘hero run’ is a truly accurate name’ he said.
