Pat yourself on the back!
A message from the CEO of COM Marketing, Richard Toutounji
Have you ever had someone say Pat Yourself On The Back?
You almost can't help smiling as you do it. It evokes a sense of accomplishment, of being proud. Yeah, at first it seems awkward. But the action evokes a feeling.
It's so easy to be hard on ourselves. Our business isn't growing fast enough, members want to cancel, oh no another trainer bites the dust. There are always constant challenges in business and sometimes we can be so focused on fixing the problems that we sometimes forget to stop and celebrate the wins, celebrate the achievements... give ourselves a pat on the back.
In our team, we have a really simple weekly practice that use to close out the week, re-adjust the energy levels in our team, and reset for a new week. We call it the weekly wrap-up.
Every Friday afternoon we have a quick team meeting and ask three things.
What were your wins?
Before the week finishes, we want to remember the big & small wins from the week. If we don't stop and celebrate each week, we probably won't stop and celebrate at all.
And something really wonderful happens to the energy after a round of wins. Everyone is PUMPED, and the energy shifts from Thank God It's Friday to Bring on Monday!
If you're a solo PT there's no reason why you can't do this either. Grab a piece of paper and force yourself to write down 1-3 wins. If you did that every week for a year you'd have 50-150 wins to look back on!
Who are you grateful for?
Directly after our round of wins, we do a round of gratitude where we express gratitude for someone else on the team and let them know why. Now we're pumped AND we're feeling the LOVE.
And if you're thinking gratitude is just some hippy spiritual practice, think again. Gratitude is actually proven to reduce stress and moves you from fight or flight (aka stressed) back into Rest & Digest mode. It's also a total power move especially when you're in a difficult season.
Try practicing gratitude for people in the team each week and watch the energy in your team and yourself rise.
Who Is The Top Performer?
Once we've done wins & gratitude we do something fun. We give a Top Performer point to someone on the team who has been outstanding. All the TP points are added up and someone wins an actual trophy every week. It's a little bit of fun to end the week.
We've seen our clients use this not only in their teams but also among members to lift the energy and promote simple healthy mental health practices that they can do each and every day. So go ahead, give yourself a pat on the back.
