Use Your Skills to Help Those in Need
Fitness Australia, in conjunction with Mentor+Support, are encouraging Trainers and fitness businesses to help create a more #InclusiveFitness industry by supporting people with mental health conditions who lead a sedentary lifestyle.
In Australia, one in five individuals aged 16-85 experience a mental health condition each year and almost half of the population will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime. In addition, 65% of people with a mental health condition don’t access treatment, often because of lack of resources or fear of social stigma, making the role of exercise as an alternative therapy even more significant. Continuous exercise participation for people with mental illness has proven to be a beneficial aspect of treatment.
Whether you’re a Trainer, fitness business owner, or supplier, you can now play your part by getting involved in this #InclusiveFitness push.
Stephen Howald, Principal and Founder of Mentor+Support says Fitness Australia registered Trainers and members can play a key role in the fight to improve the fitness and eating habits of people with mental illness.
“Fitness Australia members and Trainers are perfectly placed to change lives and that’s what this program is all about,” said Stephen.
“Mental illness is quite prominent in the community and exercise participation is a key way to aid their treatment. If that training or support – no matter what form it may come in – is happening with the backing of a Fitness Australia member, the value of that to the client is enormous.
“This is a genuine opportunity for Fitness Australia Trainers, Business Owners and Suppliers, to affect real change in someone’s life.”
