International Registration

AUSactive offers pathways to registration for professionals with international qualifications as well as providing evidence to assist those with Australian qualifications get employment overseas.

Looking to practice in Australia with international qualifications?

If you have an international qualification and you wish to register with AUSactive, you will first need to need to check your qualification is eligible for International Portability.

International Portability through ICREPS

AUSactive is part of The International Confederation of Registers for Exercise Professionals (ICREPs), which is an international partnership between registration bodies around the world that register exercise professionals. Members of ICREPs operate independent, competency-based registration systems for exercise professionals.

ICREPs registration systems operate in four continents, ten countries, and collectively register over 250,000 individual professionals.
You can gain international recognition and direct transfer to work overseas through AUSactive's Professional Registration and ICREP's portability arrangement.

The evidence required must be issued from one of the relevant ICREPs countries (listed below), verifying that your qualification meets the registration requirements and states which registration categories you are eligible for.  This evidence must show either proof of current professional registration or a letter of portability.

Are you registering for the first time with qualifications greater than two years old?

In the event the most recent fitness qualification you have completed is more than two years old from the date of requested registration, you will additionally require to have accumulated the equivalence of 20 CECs in the past two years.

Step 1. You will need to have a State or territory government Overseas Qualifications Units review your studies. Please see this link for more information .

Step 2. Have your qualifications translated to English

Step 3. Fill in the international registration assessment form and upload your documents for review

You may need to complete a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or university that delivers an AUSactive eligible qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If there is no direct portability agreement with the appropriate registration body from the country you have completed your qualification and for registration purposes you will need to have your overseas qualifications mapped out to the Australian Fitness Training Qualification through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that offers Fitness Qualifications.

You may be able to apply for RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) but you’ll need to contact an RTO directly about this as arrangements for delivery and RPL vary between RTOs.

RPL is an assessment process that involves assessing your formal studies completed to date to determine credit outcomes towards the Certificate III &/or IV in Fitness.

This would see the RTO reviewing your education, identifying any gaps when comparing to Certificate III &/or IV in Fitness, providing education to address such gaps and ultimately awarding you the Certificate III &/or IV in Fitness.
