The Board is Fitness Australia's linkage to the fitness industry. The Board is responsible for providing strategic leadership of the organisation within a framework of prudent and effective controls and establishing the organisation's vision, mission, values and standards of conduct in the interests of industry members, stakeholders and the communities in which it operates. David Allan is the Managing Director of 38X Fitness. He is a highly experienced consultant to the fitness industry having most recently provided consulting services to Genesis Fitness Clubs. David was previously employed with Fitness First Australia since it’s inception in Australia and has fulfilled a number of executive posts including Development Director for seven years followed by Operations Director for 2 years.
David has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement and has 23 years’ experience in the fitness industry. David has amassed a wealth of knowledge throughout the broad fitness and leisure sector giving him a unique understanding of the business of fitness.
Newcastle University Sport (NUsport)
Chris is the Chief Executive Officer of Newcastle University Sport (NUsport), a not for profit company that manages aquatic, gymnasium, group fitness, sporting and recreational facilities and services in support of the University of Newcastle and the wider community.
Chris has a Bachelor of Commerce and has 17 years’ experience in the fitness, health and recreation industry and brings a range of skills including financial management, strategic planning and business administration gained from his existing role but also from previous roles in the hospitality, retail and building industries. He has served on Boards and numerous Committees involved in promoting improvement in community health and wellbeing.
Chris is an active participant in sport and fitness and has a vision that sees the industry engaging with increasing numbers of people to encourage and support participation in regular exercise and other services that improve their wellbeing.
Creative Fitness Marketing | MYZONE
Michael is the Managing Director of Voyage Fitness, Warwick, and a Director of Creative Fitness Marketing (CFM) and MYZONE. Michael has worked in the fitness industry in the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia for over 9 years. He owns and manages a successful regional fitness centre and has filled a number of roles with CFM/Myzone including marketing manager, business development manager and Company Director. In Australia he has visited and networked with over 400 clubs operating under different models including Chains, Franchises, Council-run facilities and independents.
Michael shares his knowledge and experiences by regularly presenting at key fitness industry events including FILEX and WAFIC. His vision is to see fitness clubs become the heart of communities, which drive a healthier nation. He believes that fitness clubs can become the hubs for health, fitness, social activity, entertainment and adventures within communities and wants more fitness providers to connect with allied health providers and medical practitioners to facilitate proactive and complete health and fitness solutions.
Julie is a professional company director and corporate advisor. She is an active fitness advocate and considers her energy and achievements in business and private life to be based upon a firm foundation of physical fitness.
Julie has an honours degree in civil engineering, an executive MBA, a graduate diploma in applied finance, a diploma of company directorship and an advanced diploma of company directorship. She also has a third dan black belt in Chun do Kwan Taekwondo and a first dan black belt in Kyokushinkai Karate. When not in the boardroom Julie is likely to be in the gym
General Manager at Aquafit
Kristen is a recognised thought leader in the fitness industry with over 25 years’ experience across various leadership and management operational roles.
She is currently the General Manager of Aquafit, a multi award winning fitness and leisure centre in Sydney. In her role as General Manager of Aquafit, Kristen has developed and implemented a well-designed strategy to position Aquafit as a valuable community asset, especially for older people and the Club is often cited as a shining example of best practice in Australia. Kristen holds a qualification in BSpSc (Exercise Science) and has recently completed an MBA (Distinction) at University of Wollongong. Kristen was a previous Board Member of Fitness NSW in 2008 & 2009. In 2006 Kristen was awarded Fitness NSWs Award for “Outstanding Contribution to the Industry”.
An active contributor and leader in the Industry , she has provided her significant expertise as a volunteer on numerous industry committees and councils to help advance the fitness industry. Kristen is also a regular contributor to Industry publications, and an expert panelist and presenter at Industry conferences.
Anytime Fitness Australia
Justin is the Co-Founder & Chairman of Anytime Fitness Australia and Collective Wellness Group.
Justin has over 25 years’ experience in the fitness industry in a range of facilities, including small owner operated, family owned and larger chains. He successfully launched the Anytime Fitness franchise to the Australian market in 2008. Anytime Fitness now has over 450 locations open and is the largest health club chain in Australia.
Justin is also the Co-founder and Chairman or Collective Wellness Group which is set to revolutionise the wellness, fitness and health franchising industry in Australia.
With a passion for developing business Justin believes we all need to work towards making sure the general community is enjoying the benefits that the fitness and wellness industry can deliver.
Justin is a director of Anytime Fitness in the United Kingdom and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Vision Personal Training
Andrew is a Director and CEO of Vision Personal Training, a highly successful network of 50 personal training studios around Australia. He has over 25 years’ experience in the fitness industry and brings a broad range of experience to the Board, as well as the passion and commitment to drive and achieve positive change. Andrew has a Bachelor of Sport Science and a Certificate IV in Fitness. He was inducted onto the Industry Roll of Honour in 2013.
Elizma is a Partner of Deloitte, a leading professional services firm providing audit,economics, financial advisory, human capital, tax and technology services across the globe. She holds tertiary qualifications in commerce and law. Elizma is a keen participant in fitness related activities and an advocate for healthy living. She will use her skills, knowledge and experience on the Board of Fitness Australia to help strategically guide the organisation towards its vision and objectives. Elizma will join the Board as an External Director, having been selected and appointed by the Board, for a three year term.
